Suffering from Officephobia in Rome?

(A remote worker’s local guide to escaping four walls)

When I moved to Rome for my master’s, I had to juggle classes, freelance projects, and the constant need to keep my creativity alive.

Working remotely sounds like freedom, until your brain starts echoing inside the same four walls.
I’m a social creature; I need to change my environment often, to shake off the comfort zone and find new energy.

Luckily, Rome is a dream for that.

Beyond the beauty and chaos, it’s a city that quietly supports remote workers, with public, free, and incredibly inspiring spaces where you can study, write, and create.

What most people don’t know

Many people don’t realize that Italy’s cultural and public institutions actually welcome remote workers.

The government and local organizations allow students, freelancers, and expats to use public libraries and study halls for free.

All you need is your ID, your laptop, and a bit of curiosity.

My Favorite Free Workspaces in Rome

Here are some of my go-to places that make working feel like wandering inside a movie scene:

🎬 Cinema Troisi – Trastevere

Once an old cinema, now reborn as a modern cultural hub with a co-working area and a quiet study room.
It’s open daily, offers fast Wi-Fi, and has that perfect mix of creativity and calm.
Perfect for: Writing, ideation, or remote meetings surrounded by film lovers.

📚 Biblioteca della Camera di Commercio – Via de’ Burrò

A hidden gem near Campo de’ Fiori. The library of the Chamber of Commerce offers bright desks, good lighting, and a professional but relaxed atmosphere.
Perfect for: Focused work, research, and networking with locals.

🏛 Aula Studio Palazzo Braschi – Piazza Navona

Inside a 17th-century palace, this study hall gives you a view of Roman architecture while you type. It feels like time slows down here — in the best way.
Perfect for: Deep concentration and creative writing.

🐘 Pelanda – Mattatoio di Testaccio

A creative workspace inside a repurposed industrial complex, filled with art exhibitions and cultural events. The energy is artistic, bold, and a little unpredictable.
Perfect for: Designers, digital artists, and anyone who needs inspiration through chaos.

🌿 Aula Studio Trionfale – Monte Mario

Quiet, spacious, and modern – one of the best options for study sessions or long workdays. It’s a bit outside the tourist zones, which makes it a hidden treasure.
Perfect for: Productivity and escaping the city noise.
